The first two sets of games are over, and with very few exceptions the ’sweet 16′ is as expected. Now with the second weekend of games, we’ll see who’s going to step forward, have a good series of games and wind up as the Final 4 to go after the National Champion.
The Schedule for Saturday is:
New Orleans Regional:
Louisville against North Carolina
Oklahoma against LSU
Spokane Regional:
Vanderbilt against Maryland
Pittsburgh against Stanford
And on Sunday:
Oklahoma Regional:
Duke against Texas A&M
Notre Dame against Tennessee
Greensboro Regional:
Old Dominion against Connecticut
George Washington against Rutgers
And now for my prediction of the games.
Carolina will beat Louisville and will play LSU, who wins against Oklahoma. LSU will win a close game against Carolina in the regional final.
Maryland will defeat Vanderbilt and will also reach the final four when they play Pittsburgh.
Duke will beat Texas A&M and will play Tennessee, who wins against Norte Dame. Tennessee will win against Duke in the regional final.
UConn will defeat Old Dominion, but they will not reach the final four. They will lose for their second game to Rutgers. Rutgers gets to the regional final easily.

I just watched the selection show and to put it mildly I’m a bit surprised and confused.
It just doesn’t make sense that UConn may have to play Rutgers to get to the final four. But it may even be stranger that Carolina may have to play LSU on what can almost be considered their home floor.
If I would have to make a guess I would think that Maryland has the easiest path to the Final Four, and that’s even with them having to play Stanford, the team many think should have held the last top spot.
But let’s take a guess on the Final Four without really looking at the brackets. I’d take Rutgers, LSU, Maryland and Tennessee as the four with Maryland and Tennessee in the Finals.

Baylor after their lost to Stanford dropped one notch to number 11. None of the teams that were in the Top 25 last week dropped out. Texas A&M moving up two spots had the biggest gain. Arizona State dropping from 18 to 22 had the biggest drop.
Because of exams, many schools did not even play this week.

(20) Texas 76 – LA Lafayette 43
Even though Texas had trouble with hitting their shots in the first half they opened the 2nd half 21-12 to lead 59-35.
(19) Ohio State 71 – Washington 54
Marscilla Packer scored 18 points as the Ohio State Buckeyes routed and overmatched Washington.
(9) Oklahoma 66 – (21) Michigan State 55
Courtney Paris recorded her 68th straight double/double while win sister Ashly scored 12 to help Oklahoma defeat Michigan State. It turned out to be a game of rebounds, with Michigan not rebounding when it counted. Michigan lead at the half 28-17, but only scored 27 in the second half while giving up 49. Allyssa Dehaan scored 10 with 5 blocks in the lost.
(8) LSU 76 – LA Tech 45
Behind Sylvia Fowles’ 16 points and eight rebounds LSU had an easy time in their win over LA Tech. They led at the half 40-22 when LA Tech missed 14 of 17 shots after cutting a LSU lead to 3 with 12 minutes left in the 1st half.
(5) Stanford 87 – (10) Baylor 63
Not only did Stanford deliver Rutgers their first lost, they did it also to Baylor. Candice Wiggins scored 35 points in the game where she also scored her 2,000 point as a college player. It was Stanford’s first game back from a two week break. It didn’t look as if they’ve been away.
(1) Tennessee 96 – Gonzaga 73
Tennessee had a 15-0 run in the 1st half to take an 24-9 lead after 8 minutes and added an 18-0 run in the second half. Shannon Bobbitt returned to the Tennessee lineup scoring 6 and had 13 assists.
